A three-year-old girl has drowned at Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County, California, a popular destination near Yosemite National Park. The child, identified as Lailah Rosillo from Modesto, was believed to have been playing on a raft.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on Saturday at 3:34 p.m. reporting a missing child at Fleming Meadows Lagoon within the reservoir. Subsequent calls indicated that a 3-year-old girl had been found and that CPR was being administered.
Boat patrol officers were already in the area and began CPR until fire and medical personnel arrived. Despite continued resuscitation efforts, the child did not respond and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A GoFundMe fundraiser organized by a family friend, Yolanda Muro, aims to raise $12,000 for funeral and memorial expenses. As of the report, nearly $9,000 had been raised. Muro described the incident as an "unimaginable nightmare" for the family and remembered Rosillo as a "bright, beautiful little girl whose smile brought happiness to everyone around her." Rosillo is survived by an older brother, an older sister, and a baby brother.
The lagoon at Fleming Meadows Recreation Area is a designated 2-acre swimming area with a sand bottom, located near a picnic area. Don Pedro Reservoir, created in 1971, has a capacity of 2 million acre-feet of water.
