The nominations for the 2026 Emmy Awards were announced, featuring expected frontrunners and several unexpected omissions and inclusions across major categories. While popular shows like "The Pitt," "Shrinking," and "Only Murders in the Building" secured multiple nominations, the Television Academy's choices also generated notable surprises.

In a significant turn of events, Jeremy Allen White, a two-time winner for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in "The Bear," did not receive a nomination in the category this year. This marks the first time since the show's premiere that White has been shut out of this race. "The Bear" itself, however, earned a Best Comedy Series nomination, along with nods for cast members Ayo Edebiri and Jamie Lee Curtis, and various craft departments.

Richard Gadd's follow-up to his acclaimed series "Baby Reindeer," titled "Half Man," received a nomination for Gadd in the Outstanding Lead Actor category. However, the show itself was not nominated for Outstanding Limited Series, a category some prognosticators had predicted it would contend in. Peacock's "All Her Fault" was noted as a surprise nominee in that category.

Apple TV+'s "Widow's Bay" emerged as a strong contender in the comedy categories, with nominations for actors Matthew Rhys and Kate O'Flynn, as well as supporting performances from Dale Dickey, Stephen Root, Hamish Linkletter, and Betty Gilpin. Meanwhile, HBO's "Industry," despite critical praise, was once again overlooked by Emmy voters, while the freshman series "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" received nominations.

Connor Storrie, who was not eligible for his work on the Canadian-produced "Heated Rivalry," did secure a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live." This nomination is seen by some as recognition for his overall talent, potentially honoring both his SNL performance and his role in "Heated Rivalry."

In a notable win for reality television personalities, Bravo alumna Ariana Madix earned her first Emmy nomination for her hosting duties on "Love Island USA." Madix's role on the show has been widely praised for her charm and ability to connect with both the dramatic and lighthearted aspects of the competition.

The 2026 Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled to be hosted by Mariska Hargitay and will be broadcast on NBC on Monday, September 14.
