A 12-year-old boy is being celebrated for his bravery after scaling an apartment building to rescue a puppy stranded on a narrow ledge. The incident occurred on Monday morning on the New South Wales Central Coast.
Kyden, the young rescuer, noticed the puppy, which had escaped from a unit's balcony, teetering on the edge of the second-floor balcony. He climbed onto a thin ledge, using the balcony railing for support, to reach the distressed animal. His mother, Melinda, described the situation as potentially dangerous but noted Kyden's determination to help the puppy.
The puppy was initially protective and barked at Kyden but eventually allowed him to pick it up. Kyden then safely returned the dog to its unit and secured the balcony opening to prevent a recurrence.
Melinda stated that her family, who live nearby, saw a picture of the stranded dog on a community Facebook page and rushed to assist. While the identity of the dog's owners is unknown, they reportedly returned home about an hour later to find their puppy safe.
Kyden's actions drew significant attention on social media, with many users comparing his agility to that of the superhero Spider-Man. Comments highlighted his bravery and compassionate nature.
Some online reactions also raised questions about pet safety in apartments and the responsibility of owners to supervise animals on balconies. The incident has sparked discussions about preventing similar situations in the future.
