A 12-year-old girl was fatally shot in Baltimore over the weekend after being caught in the crossfire of a dispute between two men over a parking space. The incident occurred in a park where children were playing American football.
Police reported that the girl was not the intended target but was struck by bullets as the men exchanged gunfire. The shooting happened after 6 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to the deceased child, a woman sustained gunshot wounds, and two men sought hospital treatment for injuries believed to be related to the incident. The injuries of the three survivors are not considered life-threatening.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley stated at a press conference that authorities are searching for at least two suspects and have made no arrests. He described the altercation as one between "two cowards" who both opened fire, leading to the girl's death.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his dismay at the event, calling it "one of the most disgusting things" he had ever witnessed and lamenting that a child's life was lost due to an argument between adults. Police are continuing their investigation and have appealed to witnesses for information.
