Crimestoppers has announced a £10,000 reward for information leading to the identification of a masked robber who has been targeting vulnerable individuals in Solihull, West Midlands, for more than a year. The perpetrator, nicknamed the 'Gingerbread Man' due to his ability to evade capture, has been linked to over 50 offenses, primarily involving the theft of jewelry from women and elderly pensioners.
West Midlands Police describe the suspect as a Black male in his 20s, who typically wears a padded jacket, ski mask, and sunglasses. The attacks often involve the assailant ambushing victims from behind, using violence before stealing their jewelry and fleeing on a bicycle. The offenses date back to at least April 2025.
One recent incident, on July 13, involved an 80-year-old woman who was pushed to the ground, and a gold chain was forcibly removed from her neck. She was treated for head and ankle injuries. Another victim, 20-year-old Stacey, reported being grabbed by the hair and having a bracelet ripped from her wrist on July 24. Her mother stated that Stacey now suffers from PTSD following the attack and has received numerous messages from other individuals who have experienced similar assaults.
Alan Edwards, Crimestoppers regional manager for the West Midlands, called the attacks "deeply concerning" due to their sudden nature and the level of violence employed. He urged anyone with information to come forward anonymously.
The police are particularly interested in information related to incidents occurring in the Chelmsley Wood and Smith's Wood areas of Solihull. Anyone with details can contact West Midlands Police at 101, quoting reference number 20/219804/26, or Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
