A shooting at an outdoor concert in Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday evening resulted in one fatality and four injuries, including two minors. The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. in Charles Young Park.
Authorities reported that the injured victims included a 14-year-old and a 4-year-old, both of whom sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital. Details regarding the deceased individual and a potential suspect have not been released.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, whose Kentucky Democratic Party dinner was taking place approximately a mile and a half from the park, addressed the shooting during the event. He stated that the situation had been resolved and urged voters to elect Democrats to combat mass shootings. "To stop mass shootings, we have got to elect Democrats that will actually do something about it," Beshear said.
No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning, according to Lexington police. Police Chief Lawrence Weathers appealed to the public for information, asking anyone who knows someone inclined to use a weapon to come forward before an incident occurs. Police have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The shooting in Lexington follows a separate incident at Virginia State University earlier on Saturday, where five people were injured. A 19-year-old suspect, Camron Harris, was arrested in connection with that event.
