Los Angeles Angels infielder Zach Neto has offered no clarity on his future with the team, remaining non-committal when asked about potential long-term plans following the Major League Baseball trade deadline. The Angels did not trade Neto, a 25-year-old player under team control for three more seasons after 2026, at the Aug. 3 deadline.
When questioned about whether the front office, led by interim general manager John Mozeliak, had assured him of plans to build around him or avoid trading him in the offseason, Neto declined to answer, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. This silence comes amid speculation about his future with the franchise, particularly as the Angels appear to be in a rebuilding phase.
Neto’s name had surfaced in trade rumors leading up to the deadline. His reticence to discuss his future in Los Angeles adds to the uncertainty surrounding his status with the team. He recently ended a significant hitting slump, connecting on his first home run since July 5 in a game against the Baltimore Orioles. Prior to that, over his last 10 games, Neto had struggled offensively, posting a .125 batting average with one RBI, 16 strikeouts, and a .330 OPS.
Despite the trade deadline passing, Neto's future in Los Angeles remains unclear. The Angels, owned by Arte Moreno, have faced fan pleas to sell the team amidst recent struggles. The team traded five players at the deadline, underscoring their current organizational direction.
