Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was taken to a local hospital after sustaining a serious neck injury early in the fourth quarter of the team's victory against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
The All-Pro linebacker lay motionless on the field after tackling Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. Medical personnel quickly attended to Campbell before he was placed on a stretcher and carted off the field to cheers from the home crowd.
The Lions organization announced that Campbell was en route to a Detroit hospital for evaluation. Head coach Dan Campbell stated after the game that he had no further details on the player's condition but that the team's thoughts and prayers were with Campbell and his family. "We'll keep you updated as this goes, but we're thinking about him," the coach said.
Campbell was injured on a play alongside defensive end Eric O’Neill. After Hockenson was brought down, Campbell appeared to be in distress.
A third-year player selected 18th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Campbell has started 52 of the 57 games he has played in, accumulating 8.5 sacks. He was an All-Pro selection in 2025, recording five sacks and 176 tackles while starting all 17 games for the Lions.
Campbell was the third Lions defender to be injured during the game. Pass rusher DJ Wonnum and safety Brian Branch also sustained injuries. The win marked the Lions' fifth of the season and was the Vikings' first loss in 2026.
