Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was immobilized and taken off the field on a cart during Sunday's game at Ford Field after a violent collision. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of a neck injury.
Trainers and doctors attended to Campbell on the field after the play, and players from both the Lions and the visiting Minnesota Vikings knelt as he received attention. Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was visibly emotional and appeared to be in tears.
The injury occurred when Campbell was involved in a tackle on Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. According to reports, Campbell appeared to make contact with his facemask as he was falling, leading to his head and neck compressing into his torso.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family," Lions coach Dan Campbell said. "He's being taken care of. We don't have any new information. We'll keep you updated as this goes, but we're thinking about him."
It took several minutes for medical personnel to attend to Campbell before he could be moved off the field.
