Jazz Chisholm Jr. exited the Yankees' 2-1, 11-inning loss to the Chicago White Sox on Thursday due to what the team believes are right hamstring cramps. Chisholm felt the issue during the eighth inning and was eventually replaced by a pinch runner in the 11th.
Despite the discomfort, Chisholm expressed optimism about returning to the lineup Friday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. "It started to feel better as the game went on, but they just wanted to play it safe to avoid injury," Chisholm said after the game.
Manager Aaron Boone indicated that the team's trainers do not consider the issue serious. "Trainers don’t think it’s much," Boone said.
Chisholm, who went 1-for-3 with two walks on Thursday, has been a part of a Yankees lineup that has struggled to score runs. He has contributed 16 home runs and 30 stolen bases this season, showcasing his potential to generate offense, a capability the Yankees have needed, especially with key players like Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton currently sidelined by injuries.
In the game, pitcher Ryan Weathers delivered a strong performance, throwing seven shutout innings and scattering three hits and three walks. He recorded 12 of his 21 outs on the ground, including a crucial double play in the sixth inning. Weathers finished his outing with 106 pitches after successfully getting Luisangel Acuña to ground out in the seventh, a decision he had lobbied for on the mound.
Carlos Rodón, sidelined with left elbow inflammation, completed a live bullpen session on Wednesday consisting of two innings and 30 pitches without issue, according to Boone. His next step has not yet been determined, with options including another live bullpen session or beginning a rehab assignment.
