The New York Yankees selected Luke Pettitte, son of former pitcher and current special adviser Andy Pettitte, with their eighth-round pick in the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday.

Luke Pettitte, 21, is a two-way player who did not pitch this spring for Dallas Baptist University after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. He played as the designated hitter, hitting 16 home runs in 42 games during the season.

It remains to be seen how the Yankees will utilize the right-hander should he sign with the organization. According to Baseball America, Pettitte possesses "some of the best command in the 2026 [draft] class."

Andy Pettitte, who previously coached his sons in high school, pitched for 15 seasons with the Yankees, winning five World Series titles. He rejoined the organization in 2023 and occasionally works with the pitching staff, serving as a mentor to several pitchers, including Cam Schlittler.
