Wyndham Clark, the recent U.S. Open champion, has adopted an unconventional approach to his preparation for the upcoming British Open, utilizing a wooden coat hanger as a training aid. Clark was observed using the item on Monday, described as a "technical day" in his practice routine.
Clark explained that the coat hanger is used to help with his wrist angle, aiming to achieve more inflection in his left wrist to improve the squaring of the clubface. He noted that his swing had become "a little off," particularly in the final round of a recent tournament, and that he has been trying to flatten his wrist angle. He typically hits 15 to 20 shots with the hanger during these practice sessions.
The method has drawn some commentary on social media, with users speculating about the origin of the hanger and humorously remarking on the unusual practice.
Clark, currently ranked 34th in the Official World Golf Ranking, has achieved significant success, including two major championships and four PGA Tour wins. He was ranked as high as third in 2024. He is scheduled to begin play at the British Open on Thursday alongside Cameron Young and Ludvig Aberg.
