The Washington Wizards are not entertaining trade offers for veteran forward Anthony Davis, according to a source who spoke with ESPN's Marc J. Spears. The team intends to keep Davis and is not listening to any inquiries about him.
This stance comes amid weeks of trade rumors surrounding Davis, including speculation about a potential reunion with LeBron James on another team. One report suggested the Golden State Warriors were interested in acquiring Davis to form a superteam with James and Stephen Curry. However, there has been no significant progress in discussions between Golden State and Washington, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
Wizards general manager Will Dawkins is reportedly a strong admirer of Davis, which may influence the team's decision to hold onto the forward. Davis is eligible for an extension this offseason. The Wizards have been active in the current offseason, extending Trae Young's contract by four years and $212 million. They also drafted AJ Dybantsa with the first overall pick.
Davis, a 10-time All-Star, has yet to play a game for the Wizards. He was acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in February and played only 20 games last season due to injuries. The team shut him down late in the season to allow for a full recovery from groin and hand injuries.
Last season, Davis averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game for the Mavericks, shooting 50.6% from the field. If Davis remains with Washington, it would likely end any possibility of a Warriors' superteam featuring Davis, James, Curry, and potentially Draymond Green.
