Serena and Venus Williams are set to reunite for doubles play at the Cincinnati Open next week, organizers announced Monday. The sisters received a wild-card entry into the doubles field, marking their first time teaming up in the hard-court tune-up tournament.
Their last competitive doubles match together was at the 2022 U.S. Open. The pair has an extensive record of success, having won 14 major titles and three Olympic gold medals in doubles.
This appearance comes as Serena Williams continues her comeback. She recently returned to singles play at Wimbledon after a nearly four-year hiatus. Venus Williams, 46, is also scheduled to compete in mixed doubles at the U.S. Open later this month alongside Alexander Bublik.
The Cincinnati Open serves as a key preparatory event for the U.S. Open, which begins shortly after the tournament in Mason, Ohio. The sisters' participation in Cincinnati is seen as a significant lead-up to their individual and potentially paired performances at the Grand Slam in New York.
