Veteran running back Miles Sanders was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and careless driving on June 8 in Churchill Borough, near Pittsburgh, according to court records. Police also reported finding marijuana in his vehicle.
A criminal complaint states that an officer found Sanders, 29, in the driver's seat of a Lexus stopped in the middle of William Penn Highway. The officer reported that Sanders was unresponsive at first, appearing “slumped over” and “in and out of consciousness,” according to CBS Pittsburgh. The officer alleged that Sanders performed poorly on field sobriety tests and tested positive for alcohol.
Sanders, who is listed as a Pittsburgh native, has spent most of his collegiate and professional career in Pennsylvania. He played college football at Penn State before being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2019 NFL Draft. After four seasons with the Eagles, he signed with the Carolina Panthers. He played for Carolina for two years before joining the Dallas Cowboys in 2025.
In the 2025 season, Sanders appeared in four games for the Cowboys, rushing for 117 yards and one touchdown before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He has accumulated 4,462 career rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns. His agent, Phil DiLucente, told KDTA-TV that this is a private matter that has not yet reached the preliminary hearing stage and that there will be no further comment.
Sanders has a court date scheduled for September. With training camps underway and Sanders recovering from injury, his future team for the upcoming season remains uncertain.
