Venus Williams' bid in the U.S. Open singles competition concluded in the first round following a loss to fellow American wild card Sofia Kenin. The match, which began on Arthur Ashe Stadium after midnight, saw Kenin win with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (6).

Williams, 46, was unable to secure the second set after holding a late lead, contributing to her current streak of 14 consecutive singles match losses since July 2025. This defeat may mark her final singles match in a Grand Slam tournament. Following the conclusion of one of the three latest women's matches in US Open history, Williams acknowledged the crowd's applause.

"I always try to appreciate it, but it is definitely all business and there’s no room for error," Williams told reporters. "As much as you get close to knock on the door, it still isn’t over until you really cross that line. So try to soak it in. It is more fun when the ball’s going in."
