The United States Men's National Team's World Cup Round of 16 loss to Belgium attracted 30 million viewers on Fox, setting a new record for the most-watched soccer telecast in American television history. The match, which aired on July 6, 2026, also peaked at 36.8 million viewers between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. ET.

This viewership milestone is part of a larger trend of increased attention for the U.S. Men's National Team during the 2026 World Cup, which is being held partly on home soil for the first time since 1994. The previous record for U.S. soccer viewership was established earlier in the tournament during the team's Round of 32 match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, which averaged nearly 26.4 million viewers. The U.S. team's World Cup opener against Paraguay in the group stage drew 15.986 million viewers, which at the time was the most-watched telecast of a U.S. Men's National Team game.

Despite the record-breaking viewership, the on-field result for the U.S. was a 4-1 defeat against Belgium. Midfielder Tyler Adams acknowledged the team's shortcomings after the game, stating, "Today wasn’t a good day. There was a lot of things we could have done better. I think when you concede goals that easily against a team of that quality, you’re going to lose. This was an opportunity to advance and try and do something special and we fell short."

The U.S. Men's National Team has not advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup since 2002, having been eliminated in the Round of 16 in their last four knockout-stage appearances.
