French tennis player Lois Boisson's furious reaction to her first-round exit from the US Open has captured viral attention after she was seen smashing her racket in frustration.
Boisson, 23, was defeated by American player Emma Navarro on Monday afternoon with a final score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. Following the handshake at the net, Boisson began repeatedly smashing her racket into the court surface.
In the same moment, Navarro was seen waving to the crowd, appearing unaware of Boisson's outburst. The match had been initially scheduled for Sunday but was postponed due to rain, forcing a restart on Monday.
Navarro commented on the match's interruption, stating, "It was really tough stopping at the point of the match we were at. I just felt like I had worked really hard to get to that point, and then all of a sudden, it's like we're gonna come out tomorrow and we both have a clean slate. It's really unique because you feel like you should feel like you're ahead, but you kind of don't."
Navarro, who had held a lead before the postponement, managed to secure the win despite a strong performance from Boisson after the restart. "It was really tough. Kind of took me a little while to find my bearings," Navarro said. "I think it was after I got broken in the third when I was like, okay, now I know I'm where I want to be. I'm ready to play."
Navarro is set to face either Catherine McNally or Anouk Koevermans in the next round.
