The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) has advanced to the knockout stages of the World Cup as the leaders of Group D, despite a dramatic 3-2 loss to Turkey on Thursday night. The defeat, however, did not impact their progression, as they finished the group stage with six points.

Turkey secured a last-gasp victory in Los Angeles with a goal in the 98th minute from substitute Kaan Ayhan. The USMNT had taken the lead early in the match through Auston Trusty, but Turkey responded, and the game remained in contention until Ayhan's decisive strike. Despite the win, Turkey was eliminated from the tournament.

In the other Group D match, Australia secured their advancement with a 0-0 draw against Paraguay. This result placed Australia second in the group, behind the USMNT, and pushed Scotland further down the third-place rankings. Scotland, having finished their group with three points, now trails South Korea, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Paraguay, Ecuador, and Sweden in the race for knockout stage qualification as one of the best third-placed teams.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Ecuador secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Germany to qualify for the knockout stages. Germany's loss marked a significant point, as they have now lost as many World Cup games since winning the trophy in 2014 as they have won.

Ivory Coast also progressed to the knockout rounds for the first time in their history, defeating Curacao 2-0. Nicolas Pepe scored both goals for the African side.

The Netherlands finished atop Group F with a 3-1 victory over Tunisia, setting up a last-32 clash with Morocco. Japan drew 1-1 with Sweden, with both teams advancing.

During the match between Tunisia and the Netherlands, Tunisia bizarrely returned to the pitch for the second half with only 10 players, causing a delay until Ellyes Skhiri, who had scored an own goal earlier in the match, emerged from the tunnel.

Several celebrities were in attendance for the USMNT's match against Turkey, including Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Paris Hilton, and former Vice President Kamala Harris. IMAGE1

Looking ahead, the day's matchups include a highly anticipated contest between Kylian Mbappe's France and Erling Haaland's Norway. Other games feature Senegal vs. Iraq, Cape Verde vs. Saudi Arabia, Uruguay vs. Spain, Egypt vs. Iran, and Belgium vs. New Zealand. The focus remains on the ongoing World Cup action and the progression of teams into the critical knockout stages.
