University of Evansville basketball player Jordan Scott died late Sunday evening following a car crash in Warrick County, Indiana. The sophomore guard was driving a friend home when her vehicle struck a utility pole in an unfamiliar area near Boonville, according to local officials.
News of Scott's death prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the college basketball community. Both the University of Evansville and her former junior college program, Wabash Valley College, shared statements mourning her loss on Monday.
"We are heartbroken by Jordan’s passing," said Dr. Kenneth 'Ziggy' Siegfried, UE Vice President for Athletics. "Jordan was a beloved member of our Purple Aces family, and we are grateful that she chose to share part of her life with us." He added, "Our hearts are especially with her sister and teammate, Jayden, their parents and family, and Jordan’s teammates and coaches."
The university confirmed it is making counseling and grief support services available to students, student-athletes, and staff.
Scott, a graduate of Castle High School in Newburgh, played her freshman season at Wabash Valley College before transferring to the University of Evansville this summer to play alongside her sister. Wabash Valley Athletics remembered Scott as a "former Lady Warrior and current University of Evansville Purple Ace," stating, "Our prayers and condolences go to the Scott family during this time."
