Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill has provided a concerning update on his recovery from a severe knee injury, leaving his NFL future in question as training camps loom. Hill, who has been without a team since being released by the Miami Dolphins in February, is approximately 10 months removed from a catastrophic injury that affected his MCL, ACL, PCL, and patella.
In a YouTube video posted Wednesday, Hill shared his current rehabilitation status. "My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg, so I'm trying to regain all the power back in my left leg. But it's one day at a time," Hill stated. He acknowledged that following the injury, there was a possibility he "might not be able to walk again," but asserted he is on the mend.
Despite the slow progress, Hill has been pushing his limits, performing exercises such as short running sprints, which he admitted he was not medically cleared to do. "I like to challenge myself a little bit," he said.
Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowler, was released by the Dolphins after the conclusion of the 2025 season, making him a free agent for the first time. At the time of his release, he vowed to return, stating, "The Cheetah will be back."
However, recent reports cast doubt on his availability for the upcoming 2026 season. According to James Palmer of Bleacher Report, "There still is, to my understanding, no guarantee that Tyreek Hill plays in 2026. I think it's wishful thinking." Palmer suggested that the brief rehabilitation videos shared by Hill would not be sufficient to persuade NFL front offices to offer him a contract without extensive medical evaluations and seeing him run full-speed drills.
Medical experts had initially projected a midseason return as the best-case scenario for Hill's complex injury. His game heavily relies on speed, and any lingering limitations could significantly impact his market value. Should Hill successfully prove his fitness later in the year, he could become a valuable midseason addition for a Super Bowl contender. Speculation has linked him with a potential reunion with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Until Hill can demonstrate that his knee is fully recovered and capable of withstanding the demands of NFL play, his immediate professional future remains uncertain.
