Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Ty Simpson is on the verge of his NFL debut, with the team set to play the Kansas City Chiefs this Saturday. Ahead of the potential first game, Simpson shared the valuable advice he has received from veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.

"To just be yourself," Simpson told reporters regarding Stafford's counsel. "Don’t try to be somebody else; just do it your way." Simpson elaborated that Stafford emphasized the importance of self-discovery, stating, "A lot of times people get caught up in the mess of trying to do like somebody else, trying to be like whoever, but it is more about finding who you are and how things work and tick."

This upcoming period of three weeks is anticipated to be a significant learning phase for Simpson, as he is expected to receive substantial playing time during the preseason. This is particularly true as Stafford is unlikely to participate in any preseason snaps.

Simpson, selected by the Rams as the No. 13 overall pick in the NFL Draft this past spring, is viewed as the team's quarterback of the future, with plans for him to learn under Stafford's guidance. Rams head coach Sean McVay will also have an opportunity to evaluate the rookie's performance.

Stafford has embraced his mentorship role with Simpson. When asked about his feelings regarding his impending NFL debut, Simpson stated he was "excited" and viewed it as a "great opportunity." Stafford's specific advice for this situation was to "just go let it rip. It’s nothing that you haven’t done before. Just go out there and play with the rules, see the play clock, understand what your problems are, and go let it rip."

In addition to Stafford, Simpson noted that veteran quarterback Stetson Bennett and head coach McVay have also served as important role models and mentors. "Not only are we going to get better, but it is a growth moment where we all come together and help the team," Simpson said. Misc. Image of Matthew Stafford practicing a pass during training camp.
