The Philadelphia Flyers have secured center Trevor Zegras with a four-year contract extension valued at $36.5 million, making him the highest-paid player in the team's history. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
Zegras, 25, will carry an average annual value of $9.125 million. The deal prevents Zegras, who was a restricted free agent and had filed for arbitration, from testing the open market. He spent his first five seasons with the Ducks before being traded to the Flyers last offseason.
"We’re thrilled to have Trevor committed to our organization for the next four years," said Flyers general manager Danny Briere. "The growth he showed this past season, proving that he is the skilled player he entered the league as, reinforced our belief that he will be an impact player for the Flyers for the years to come. He’s the type of player who can help take our team to the next level, and we’re excited to continue building alongside him."
Originally the ninth pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Zegras recorded 67 goals and 119 assists in five seasons with the Ducks. In his debut season with the Flyers, he achieved a career-high 26 goals and added 41 assists, narrowly missing his career best set in the 2022-23 season. He also contributed two goals and four assists in eight playoff games.
This extension follows a notable offseason for Briere, who has focused on retaining key players. Goaltender Dan Vladar and right wing Tyson Foerster have also signed extensions. The Flyers recently made a significant offer to Leo Carlsson of the Ducks, attempting to lure him with a record-setting offer sheet, but Anaheim matched the deal.
The Flyers are coming off a successful 2025-26 season, marking their first playoff appearance since 2020 and advancing past the first round by defeating the rival Pittsburgh Penguins. The team's management aims to build on this momentum with Zegras as a central figure.
