Transgender athlete Veronica Ivy, formerly known as Rachel McKinnon, has achieved success in a second sport, transitioning from elite cycling to amateur golf. Ivy recently defended her Inter-Provincial Team title at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship alongside teammates Nonie Marler and Aram Choi.
In June, Ivy secured victories in both the women’s British Columbia Mid-Amateur and Mid-Master championships. Reflecting on her golf achievements, Ivy described the sport as significantly more challenging than cycling, noting the sustained mental stress involved.
Ivy's success in women's sports follows her previous accomplishments in cycling, where she won masters titles in 2018 and 2019, becoming the first transgender woman to win a world cycling championship in that category. The debate surrounding transgender athletes in women's sports has recently gained renewed attention, impacting various sports and leagues.
