During a contentious moment in Sunday's game between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros, manager Skip Schumaker and home plate umpire Todd Tichenor paused a heated argument to observe the customary "God Bless America" rendition. The incident occurred in the seventh inning with the score tied 3-3.

Schumaker emerged from the dugout to dispute a called strike on Nicky Lopez with a full count. As the exchange with Tichenor escalated, the ballpark's tradition of playing "God Bless America" began. Both Schumaker and Tichenor removed their caps and faced the flag for the duration of the song.

Following the song, the argument resumed, leading to Tichenor ejecting Schumaker from the game. Shortly after, "Deep in the Heart of Texas," the Astros' traditional seventh-inning song, began to play. This marked Schumaker's first ejection as the Rangers' manager.

Schumaker commented on the situation postgame, noting the team's lack of available challenges, having used their two allotted challenges in the first three innings. He stated, "Todd [Tichenor] has been a really good umpire for a long time. But that moment is a big call, a crucial call that you just gotta get right."

The Rangers ultimately lost the game 7-3, completing a weekend sweep for the Astros. The loss dropped the Rangers to 55-57 on the season and extended their deficit in the AL West standings. The Astros now hold a 2.5-game lead over the Rangers, with the Mariners a half-game behind Texas.
