TCU has dismissed defensive back Jacob Fields from its football team after he allegedly assaulted a teammate in the locker room on August 12. The decision to remove Fields from the roster was announced Tuesday, with a spokesperson stating he would no longer be part of the "football team moving forward," according to ESPN.
Details surrounding the incident remain limited, but The Athletic reports that the dismissal stemmed from an alleged aggravated assault involving "hands, feet or fists." TCU's general manager reportedly informed campus police about the incident, which subsequently led to the player's removal from the team.
Philip Miller, Fields' agent, released a statement on X, formerly Twitter, asserting that "a significant portion of what has been shared on social media regarding this situation is false or purely speculative." He added that Fields and his family would not comment further on the matter. Miller stated that Fields misses TCU, his teammates, coaches, and the relationships he built there, calling him a "good student, a hard worker and competitor who built many meaningful friendships during his time at TCU."
"He is grateful for the opportunity the university gave him. While disappointed, Jacob understands that given the circumstances, it was in the best interest of all parties to move forward. He respects the decision and wishes his teammates and the TCU program nothing but success," the statement read.
Fields transferred to TCU after spending his previous three seasons at Louisiana Tech. In the 2025 season with the Bulldogs, he recorded 92 tackles, three interceptions—two of which were returned for touchdowns—and was named Conference USA's Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
