Sunrisers Leeds significantly advanced their chances of reaching The Hundred's knockout stages by defeating Welsh Fire by 71 runs at Headingley. The victory propelled the second-placed Sunrisers closer to securing a playoff spot.

Mitch Marsh, the tournament's leading run-scorer, anchored Sunrisers' innings with his fourth half-century of the season, contributing 50 runs from 34 balls. He formed an opening partnership of 89 runs with Ryan Rickelton. Chris Woakes provided a breakthrough for Welsh Fire, dismissing Rickelton for 40. The Sunrisers then experienced a brief wobble as Harry Brook (23 off 11 balls) and Marsh were dismissed in quick succession, caught off the bowling of Jordan Clark and Lockie Ferguson, respectively.

Captain Zak Crawley boosted the Sunrisers' total with four sixes in a rapid 12-ball 34, while Dan Lawrence (29 not out) and Matthew Revis (15 not out) contributed to an unbroken 27-run partnership to close the innings at 201-4.

In response, Welsh Fire struggled to maintain the required scoring rate. Matt Short was their top scorer with 43 runs, and Joe Root added 31, including a 49-run partnership with Short. However, only these two and Phil Salt (13) reached double figures. Brydon Carse was instrumental for the Sunrisers' bowling attack, taking three wickets, including Salt and Marco Jansen (1). Nathan Ellis claimed the wickets of Root and Rachin Ravindra (2), while Matthew Potts dismissed Jordan Cox (12).

Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Woakes remained unbeaten on 13 as Welsh Fire finished their 100 balls at 130-6, falling well short of the target.

Sunrisers Leeds now require just one more point from their upcoming match against Manchester Super Giants to guarantee qualification. A victory in that fixture could see them contend for the top spot in the standings, depending on the result of the Trent Rockets versus Southern Brave match.

Welsh Fire, currently fifth in the table, remain in contention for the final knockout spot. They will need to win their remaining fixture against London Spirit and hope for favorable results in other matches to advance, with net run-rate likely to play a crucial role.
