San Francisco 49ers legend Steve Young has voiced significant concern over the well-being of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, stating he feels compelled to reach out and offer help.
Young's demeanor shifted from jovial to serious when discussing Aiyuk's recent activities during the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe. "I worry for him," Young said Thursday. "I feel like I want to reach out and help. This is beyond football, it feels like."
Aiyuk's behavior has drawn attention since he sustained a knee injury during the 2024 season. His actions have included a speeding incident that led to an arrest warrant and recent social media posts that have been critical of San Francisco and his friend, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.
"It just feels like we need to not make it about football right now. So, yeah," Young added, emphasizing his belief that the issues extend beyond the sport.
Aiyuk remains under contract with the 49ers, though the team has reportedly explored trade options. Aiyuk has publicly expressed a desire to move on from San Francisco and potentially join Washington.
