Mets owner Steve Cohen has stated he intends to see out the entirety of team president David Stearns' five-year contract, despite a recent decline in team performance.

Cohen acknowledged concerns about the team's near future, including a "regression in our farm system," during an appearance on "The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman." However, he emphasized his commitment to Stearns, saying, "I have a contract. It’s a five-year contract. And we’re going to live that contract out."

The Mets have experienced a downward trend in results under Stearns' leadership. The team reached the playoffs on the final day of the regular season in 2024, missed the postseason on the final day in the previous season, and in 2026, have not been in contention, being described as the majors' most disappointing club.

This trend has led to fan dissatisfaction, with some observers noting that recent seasons have been less engaging than previous ones, even those considered disappointing at the time. Cohen's continued support for Stearns suggests a long-term strategy, despite the current on-field challenges.
