Spain's Lamine Yamal and Marc Cucurella have added personal stakes to their quest for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title, making bold promises should their team defeat Argentina in Sunday's final. The match is scheduled to take place at New York New Jersey Stadium.
Defender Marc Cucurella stated in an interview that he would get a tattoo of Spanish manager Luis de la Fuente's face on his bicep if Spain secures the World Cup. Cucurella also indicated that winning the tournament, in addition to a prior Euro title, would lead him to retire from the national team. "With the Euro and World Cup trophies, you can't ask for more," Cucurella commented.
Cucurella, 27, has a history of making such declarations. He previously vowed to shave his head rather than play for Real Madrid, despite emerging from FC Barcelona's youth academy. He is slated to play for Real Madrid next season while retaining his full head of hair.
Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has also joined the pledge, promising to grow out a full beard and mustache for three weeks if Spain wins. Yamal, who made his professional debut at 15 years old in 2023, has been clean-shaven since that time.
These commitments, typically associated with losing wagers, now represent potential indicators of a significant achievement for Cucurella and Yamal, and for Spanish football.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina is set to begin at 3 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FOX and FOX One.
