Jayden Adams, a midfielder for South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns, has died at the age of 25. His passing occurred just weeks after he represented his nation in the World Cup, where South Africa advanced to the knockout stages.

South Africa's minister of sport, arts and culture, Gayton McKenzie, confirmed the news, stating, "It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams." McKenzie added, "South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents, and our nation mourns alongside his family, his team-mates and the millions of supporters who watched him grow from a promising academy prospect into a full Bafana Bafana international."

Police in Cape Town have opened an investigation after the body of a 25-year-old man was discovered at a residence in Schotschekloof on Saturday morning. The cause of Adams' death has not yet been officially confirmed.

The South African Football Players Union expressed devastation at the "untimely passing" of Adams, who made his national team debut in 2022. The union noted his pride and distinction in representing South Africa at the 2026 World Cup, describing his death as an "immeasurable loss" to his family, teammates, clubs, the football fraternity, and the country.
