A violent incident during a high school soccer match in South Dakota has led to widespread calls for a lifetime ban for a player involved in a brutal on-field assault. The altercation occurred Friday between Brookings High School and Rapid City Central.

During the match, a player from Brookings, identified as Kyler Soost, was involved in a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge with Rapid City Central's Jaxson Bergman as they pursued a pass. Bergman, who appeared to be on the losing end of the challenge, fell to the ground. He then pursued Soost, shoving him to the turf in what was described as a clear foul.

Following the shove, Bergman continued his assault on the fallen Soost. Video footage shows Bergman running over to Soost, who was on the ground, and kicking him on the back of the head. As Soost writhed in pain, Bergman stood over him and delivered approximately five punches to his head.

Referees and coaches immediately intervened to stop Bergman. In the ensuing moments, one of Soost's Brookings teammates, Caylon Peters, ran into the frame and began punching Bergman. After the players were separated, a coach escorted Bergman from the field, and he did not return to the game.

The game was suspended for approximately 10 minutes while officials managed the situation. Play eventually resumed, with Brookings High School securing a 2-0 victory.

Footage of the incident quickly circulated on social media, eliciting strong reactions from viewers who condemned the violence. Many commenters expressed outrage, with numerous calls for Bergman to be banned from playing soccer permanently. Comments included sentiments such as "Genuinely ban that kid from playing," "That is disgusting doing that, I agree, hope that is a lifetime ban," and "Banned for life. End of story."
