Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way superstar, has moved closer to returning to the pitcher's mound after throwing a bullpen session on Friday. The session consisted of approximately 20 pitches, according to manager Dave Roberts.
Roberts indicated that a decision regarding Ohtani's potential return to pitching, possibly as early as Sunday, would be made after further discussions with Ohtani and pitching coach Mark Prior. Ohtani has not taken the mound in a game since July 3 due to a left knee injury.
Despite the pitching setback, Ohtani has continued to play as the designated hitter. This season, he has compiled an 8-2 record with a 1.79 earned run average and 95 strikeouts over 85 2/3 innings pitched. At the plate, he is batting .285 with 30 home runs and 80 runs batted in.
