Serie A footballer Yael Trepy is in intensive care after being airlifted to hospital following an incident where he nearly drowned in a swimming pool at a mansion in Sardinia. The 20-year-old French forward, who plays for top-flight club Cagliari, was transported by helicopter after losing consciousness on a day off.
Sources from Sardinian newspaper Unione Sarda reported that the accident occurred in the afternoon. Trepy underwent necessary tests at the hospital, which were fortunately negative. Italian national newspaper La Repubblica noted that Trepy cannot swim and was found at the deep end of the pool located in the luxury Costa Smeralda area.
Cagliari Calcio released a statement confirming Trepy's hospitalization at the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, where he is currently in intensive care. The club stated they are in constant contact with the healthcare facility and the player's family, closely monitoring his condition. Cagliari Calcio also requested privacy for Trepy and his family.
Trepy joined Cagliari's youth academy in 2022 and made his first-team debut in the Serie A. He scored once in eight appearances during his debut campaign last season. He was part of the team that won the Italian FA Youth Cup equivalent in 2025, scoring in the final against AC Milan.
Cagliari's players had been given two days off following a 1-0 victory against Arezzo on Friday, their last match before the incident. The team was scheduled to resume training on Monday, with their league season set to kick off against Parma on Saturday. The club finished 14th in Serie A last season.
