Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to miss at least the team's Week 2 game due to a hip injury sustained early in the season opener. The injury occurred on the fifth play of Wednesday's 13-10 victory over the New England Patriots.
Despite the setback, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald announced Thursday that testing revealed the hip is intact and the issue is muscular rather than structural. "It's more of a muscle thing. So that's good news," Macdonald stated on his weekly radio show. "Now, how long that is, we don't know yet. But really, really good news. So we're really happy for Sam."
Darnold will have 17 days to recover before the Seahawks' Week 3 road game against Washington, with hopes he can return "sooner rather than later."
Drew Lock, who replaced Darnold in the season opener, led the Seahawks to a comeback victory after they trailed 10-0 in the third quarter. Lock is expected to start under center for the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals on September 20.
