Scottie Scheffler, the world's top-ranked golfer, turned down a potential offer worth $1 billion from LIV Golf because his priority is competing against the best players, not accumulating wealth, his caddie Ted Scott recently disclosed.

Scott detailed the conversation during an appearance on PGA Tour Radio, explaining that the offer came during the period when LIV Golf was actively recruiting players from the PGA Tour. Scheffler, who had recently ascended to the No. 1 ranking in March 2022, expressed a clear commitment to his current competitive environment.

"I don't care what they offer me. They can offer me a billion dollars. I'm going to play where the best players are because I just want to beat people," Scheffler told his caddie. This statement underscored Scheffler's competitive drive, which Scott identified as a defining characteristic.

Ted Scott began caddying for Scheffler in November 2021. He has been on the bag for all 22 of Scheffler's PGA Tour victories, including four major championships. Scheffler currently leads the PGA Tour's career money list with over $130 million earned.

In 2026 alone, Scheffler earned close to $31 million on the PGA Tour. Assuming a caddie's typical earnings are around 10 percent of a player's income, Scott would have earned more than $3 million in the past season. Scott also previously caddied for Bubba Watson during his two Masters victories.
