Scottie Scheffler channeled frustration into a decisive victory at the Tour Championship, erasing a three-shot deficit on Sunday to win his second FedEx Cup. Scheffler shot a bogey-free 4-under-par 66 at East Lake Golf Club, finishing at 16-under and three shots ahead of Viktor Hovland.

Scheffler's Sunday round tied for the day's lowest score and saw him overcome an emotional moment from Saturday's third round. After missing a putt, Scheffler was caught on a hot mic saying, "How does it go back that way? F---ing grain’s over here." The golfer, who had been trailing Hovland by three shots entering the final round, used the struggles as motivation.

"It didn’t take long for Scheffler to let the entire field know that if they wanted to win the Tour Championship, they were going to have to outplay the top player on the planet," the report stated. Scheffler birdied holes 2, 4, 8, 10, 13, and 16, taking the outright lead for the first time on the 13th hole. A bogey on the 14th briefly tied him with Hovland, but Scheffler regained the lead with a birdie on the 16th.

Viktor Hovland, who had led for much of the tournament, saw his putter go cold on Sunday. After making substantial putts throughout the week, his longest conversion in the final round was a 6-foot par save. Hovland missed crucial birdie putts on holes 13 and 16, and bogeyed the 17th, ultimately finishing solo second at 13-under.

A contentious moment occurred on the 13th hole when Hovland appeared to touch the sand with his club during a bunker shot. Although the Tour received inquiries, officials could not definitively determine a rules violation, and no penalty was assessed. Had a two-stroke penalty been applied, Hovland would have dropped to 11-under, impacting the final payouts.

This victory marks Scheffler's third win of 2026 and provides a defining moment for his season, strengthening his case for a fifth consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year award. It also serves as a form of revenge against Hovland, who defeated Scheffler in a playoff at the Travelers Championship earlier in the year. Scheffler's previous Tour Championship win in 2024 came with a starting stroke advantage, while this year's victory was achieved by overcoming a final-round deficit.
