Derby County is nearing a significant financial agreement with Saudi Arabian sports promoter Turki Alalshikh, a deal that could enhance the club's spending capabilities. Alalshikh has been in discussions with owner David Clowes since May regarding a potential investment in the Championship side.

Optimism surrounds the proposed deal, with expectations that it could receive approval from the English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator as early as next week. Alalshikh, a prominent figure in international boxing, has prior experience owning football clubs in Spain and Egypt.

Alalshikh holds a position as chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority and is considered part of the inner circle of Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, Mohammed bin Salman. His involvement in sports has drawn criticism from human rights groups, who allege that Saudi Arabia engages in 'sportswashing' through its investments.

If approved, Alalshikh would acquire a stake in Derby County, a club currently competing in the Championship division.
