Saratoga Race Course is set to begin its 46-day summer meet on July 3, ushering in a 10-week season that will feature a robust schedule of stakes races. The traditional opening day feature, the Schuylerville, will showcase Luminous Beauty, a filly who recently won her maiden by six lengths.
July 3 will also host three significant races: the Belmont Derby, the Belmont Oaks, and the Suburban. International competitor Title Role, a previous winner in Germany and Dubai, is slated to run in the Derby. The Oaks will see co-favorites Abashiri and Kensington Lane, while Todd Pletcher's trainee Antiquarian will aim to recover from a recent loss in the Suburban.
The Diana Stakes are scheduled for July 18. The following week, July 25, will feature the Coaching Club American Oaks for fillies and the Vanderbilt Stakes.
August 1 will bring the Jim Dandy and Saratoga Special races. Notably, Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes champion Golden Tempo will not participate due to a minor health issue. "He's fine, but the timeline just isn't going to suit us to get there," trainer Cherie DeVaux stated. "We will continue to do what got us here and put him first." DeVaux added that the Travers Stakes remains a possibility for the horse.
With Golden Tempo out of the Jim Dandy, contenders like Renegade, who finished second in the Derby and third in the Belmont Stakes, and Commandment, who placed between those two in the Belmont, are expected to compete. Ohio Derby winner Chip Honcho is also a likely starter for the Jim Dandy. Emerging Market and Chief Wallabee are considered questionable for the Jim Dandy and may target the Travers.
Whitney Day on August 8 will include the Fourstardave and Saratoga Special. The Whitney Stakes are expected to draw a strong field, including Magnitude, winner of the Stephen Foster; Nysos, victor of the Met Mile; Nitrogen, winner of the Ogden Phipps; Baeza; Sovereignty, the 2025 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner at Saratoga; and White Abarrio, a multiple Grade 1 winner. Forever Young and Skippylongstocking are doubtful entrants for the Whitney.
Alabama Stakes day is set for August 22, featuring Counting Stars and Always A Runner, the first- and second-place finishers in the Acorn Stakes, along with Black Eyed Susan winner My Miss Mo.
The meet's premier event, the Travers Stakes, is scheduled for August 29. Participation will likely be influenced by results from the Jim Dandy and the Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park. The Super Saturday card will also include the Forego, Personal Ensign, and Ballerina Stakes.
As the meet draws to a close, two-year-old races like the Spinaway and Hopeful Stakes will take center stage.
