England internationals Alessia Russo and Alex Greenwood have been included in the 30-player shortlist for the prestigious women's Ballon d'Or award. They are the sole representatives from the Lionesses on the list.
Russo, an Arsenal forward, finished third in the voting last year and had another strong individual season, contributing 24 goals in 40 club appearances. Manchester City captain Greenwood was part of the team that secured both the Women's Super League and FA Cup titles last season.
Scotland's Caroline Weir, who transferred to Lyon from Real Madrid in June, also made the shortlist. Weir scored 20 goals across all competitions for the Spanish club during her tenure.
The Ballon d'Or ceremony, celebrating its 70th anniversary since its inception by France Football in 1956, is scheduled to take place in London on October 26. The choice of London as the venue is a tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, the former England player who was the inaugural recipient of the award.
