Former New York Rangers center Ron Duguay was hospitalized this past week after falling unconscious at his home, an incident his daughter attributed to severe dehydration. Duguay, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer earlier this year, also experienced complications including varices, portal hypertensive gastropathy, internal bleeding, and an ulcer.

His daughter, Shay Thomas, shared on Instagram that Duguay fainted and sustained facial injuries and knocked out teeth in the fall. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Thomas explained that pressure built up inside Duguay's liver, a consequence of his ongoing treatment involving surgery, chemotherapy, and a medical pump. This pressure can lead to bleeding in the stomach, with the ulcer requiring further evaluation.

Duguay remains admitted to the hospital, where he is receiving blood transfusions while doctors closely monitor his condition. Thomas described her father as remaining strong and positive throughout his health challenges.

Duguay, 68, publicly shared his cancer diagnosis in February, noting the difficulty in seeking financial assistance for his treatment costs. He was diagnosed with colon cancer over a year ago and underwent surgery to remove his appendix and gallbladder. His family launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover his medical expenses, stating that his inability to work at his usual capacity has added financial strain.

Duguay, an instrumental player for the Rangers during their 1979 Stanley Cup Final run, played 864 games over an 11-year NHL career, accumulating 274 goals and 346 assists. He also played for the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Los Angeles Kings. He is in a relationship with former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who has supported him during his illness.
