Rocky Flintoff, son of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, registered his first senior professional century in Lancashire's One-Day Cup fixture against Somerset at Taunton.
The 18-year-old right-hander scored 123 runs from 76 balls, hitting seven sixes and 10 fours. Flintoff reached his century off 65 deliveries, contributing to Lancashire's total of 443-6 in 50 overs. This score marked Lancashire's highest total in List A cricket history.
Flintoff came to the crease with Lancashire at 138-3 and formed a significant partnership of 214 runs with Keaton Jennings, who also capitalized on the favorable batting conditions to score 156. The Somerset attack was notably depleted due to players participating in The Hundred.
This century represents another significant achievement in the young career of Flintoff. He previously became Lancashire's youngest player at 16 years and 113 days old, debuting in the One Day Cup in 2024. The same year, he became England Under-19s' youngest centurion with a hundred against Sri Lanka. In January 2025, he set a new record as the youngest century-maker for England Lions in a match against Cricket Australia, surpassing his father's previous record.
Flintoff's progress has faced challenges due to injuries, including a missed Under-19 World Cup winter and withdrawal from The Hundred in 2025, where he was signed by the Northern Superchargers under his father's coaching. In March, he signed a two-year contract extension with Lancashire.
While he has played only four first-class matches for Lancashire, most recently in 2024, he has found form and opportunity in the One-Day Cup. His previous scores in the competition this season included 33 not out, 41 not out, 34, and 61 not out, alongside two ducks.
Against Somerset, Flintoff demonstrated aggressive batting, including powerful sixes reminiscent of his father's style. His father, Andrew Flintoff, represented England in 79 Test matches, 141 One-Day Internationals, and seven T20 Internationals, and was a key player in the 2005 Ashes victory. Andrew Flintoff recently stepped down as coach of the England Lions.
