Maryland Whipsnakes attacker Rob Pannell is close to setting a new Professional Lacrosse League (PLL) all-time outdoor points record, aiming to surpass the mark of 657 points currently held by PLL creator Paul Rabil.
Pannell, a 36-year-old player from Smithtown, has accumulated 654 career points. He is poised to break Rabil's record, which was set in 2021. The potential record-breaking moment could occur Friday night when his team, the Maryland Whipsnakes, faces the California Redwoods.
"My plan is to try and do it this weekend. I’ll have my family there, my wife and my parents, and it would be a really special moment," Pannell stated. He also expressed a desire to achieve the milestone soon, adding with a laugh, "I would love to get it over with."
While acknowledging the significance of the scoring title, Pannell emphasized that his primary ambition remains team success. "I would say the number one thing is winning a PLL championship," he said. Pannell, who has previously won world titles and championships in Major League Lacrosse, considers a PLL championship the ultimate goal.
Pannell's approach to the game prioritizes performance on game day for his teammates. "I’ve never played lacrosse for things like this," he told The Post. "I’ve always trained with the goal in mind of being my best on game day for my teammates and making sure that I’m not letting them down."
