A towering home run by top Red Sox prospect Justin Gonzales in a High-A game on Wednesday ignited a significant on-field altercation, resulting in his ejection.

The incident occurred during High-A Greenville's 13-6 victory over the Rangers affiliate Hub City. After hitting a home run, Gonzales reportedly exchanged words with Hub City's catcher, Cal Stark, before the situation escalated into a brawl that emptied both benches.

Gonzales, who is ranked as the Red Sox's No. 3 prospect by MLB.com, was seen taking his time around the bases. While teammates restrained him, Gonzales broke free at one point and appeared to slap Stark's mask.

Gonzales, 19, was ejected from the game. Details regarding any further suspension have not yet been released.

Since signing as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2024, Gonzales has rapidly progressed through the Red Sox system. This season, in 73 games at the High-A level, he has posted a .263 batting average with a .379 on-base percentage and a .443 slugging percentage, including 13 home runs and 40 RBIs.

Gonzales has described his approach at the plate as trying to "hit the ball hard" and working on consistency. Standing six-foot-five and weighing 210 pounds, his physical attributes have drawn attention. MLB Pipeline projects his big-league debut in 2028. Former Red Sox manager Alex Cora noted Gonzales' athleticism in March, calling him a "freak athlete."
