The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday, overcoming a travel ordeal that saw them delayed for nearly 24 hours due to mechanical issues with their flight from Chicago.
The team was scheduled to fly to New York following a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox. However, issues with their plane at the Chicago airport initially caused a delay, forcing the team to return to a hotel overnight. The problems persisted when they returned to the airport the following morning, leading to a further delay.
Boston finally arrived at Citi Field around 5:05 p.m. ET for a game that was originally set to begin at 7:15 p.m. ET. The start time was subsequently pushed back to 7:50 p.m. ET. Despite the exhausting travel circumstances, the Red Sox took an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning, and maintained it to secure the victory. Mets, who are enduring a difficult season in the NL East basement, were unable to capitalize on the Red Sox's travel struggles.
