The New York Rangers have traded defenseman Will Borgen to the Boston Bruins, continuing a significant restructuring of the team's blue line. The move, announced Wednesday, brings draft picks to the Rangers while also reducing the club's financial commitments.

In return for Borgen, the Rangers received a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional third-round selection in 2028. The condition for the 2028 pick is tied to the Bruins' playoff performance: New York will receive Boston's 2028 second-round pick if the Bruins reach the conference final in either the 2026-27 or 2027-28 seasons and Borgen participates in at least 50 percent of their playoff games during those campaigns.

Borgen, 29, concludes his tenure with the Rangers having recorded nine goals and 19 assists in 126 games over the past two seasons. His contract carries a cap hit of $4.1 million annually and extends through the 2029-30 season, meaning his departure frees up substantial salary cap space for the Rangers as they continue their defensive makeover under President and General Manager Chris Drury.
