The Los Angeles Rams have acquired veteran wide receiver Tutu Atwell from the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In exchange for Atwell, the Rams sent running back Jarquez Hunter to Miami.

Atwell, 26, spent his entire career with the Rams after being drafted by the team in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins as a free agent in March but is returning to his former team without having played a regular-season game for Miami.

The move comes as the Rams navigate uncertainty surrounding star wide receiver Puka Nacua, who could face an NFL suspension for offseason violations. If Nacua is suspended, the league's decision is expected imminently, prompting the Rams' decision to add Atwell.

Last season, Atwell recorded six receptions for 192 yards and one touchdown. His role with the Rams this season will be behind Nacua and Davante Adams. However, if Nacua misses any games, particularly the Rams' Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, Atwell could become a key option for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
