Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning European champions, are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne. The French club sees Digne as a potential alternative to their current standout full-back, Nuno Mendes.
Digne previously played for PSG from 2013 to 2016. Sources indicate that a clause exists within Digne's Aston Villa contract that would permit him to discuss terms with PSG should it be triggered, though the value of this clause remains undisclosed.
Unai Emery, Aston Villa's manager, was initially uncertain about Digne's role upon his arrival in autumn 2022, acquiring Alex Moreno to compete for the left-back position. However, Digne has since adapted to Emery's tactical demands, earning starts in significant matches and receiving commendation from the manager for his attitude and performance.
Despite Emery's preference to retain the player, Digne is 32 years old and one of the club's higher earners. He joined Villa for £25 million over four years ago under former manager Steven Gerrard. While Ian Maatsen has shown inconsistent form, the 24-year-old is viewed as a long-term prospect for the left-back role at Aston Villa.
A potential reunion between Digne and PSG could see him face his current club, Aston Villa, in the UEFA Super Cup, scheduled for August 12 in Salzburg. Aston Villa has not commented on the reports.
