Professional wrestler Andy Williams, known to fans as "The Butcher," died Saturday at the age of 48 following a collapse during a match Friday night. Williams was competing for the Pittsburgh-based promotion Enjoy Wrestling when the incident occurred.
According to a 911 dispatch call, Williams sustained an injury after reportedly hitting his head on a ring post. He collapsed shortly after. Medical personnel on staff at the event administered CPR until paramedics arrived. Despite these efforts and transport to a hospital, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed his death.
Witnesses described a frantic scene, with one noting Williams appeared unsteady before going down. Emergency services and the crowd worked together to clear a path and administer aid, including chest compressions and the use of an AED, before he was transported from the venue.
The remainder of the Enjoy Wrestling event was canceled following the medical emergency. Both All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where Williams had a notable run, and Enjoy Wrestling released statements mourning his passing. AEW highlighted his respected presence both in and out of the ring, noting his transition from a successful music career.
Beyond his wrestling career, Williams was also recognized as a musician, having served as the guitarist for the heavy metal band Every Time I Die until their dissolution in 2022.
An official cause of death has not yet been determined.
