PGA Tour player Trey Mullinax has been suspended for six months after testing positive for a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, the PGA Tour announced Wednesday. Mullinax, 34, stated that he used a medication to treat a condition diagnosed during his college years without obtaining the necessary approval under the tour's anti-doping policy.

"My lack of knowledge is not an excuse," Mullinax said in a statement. "It was my responsibility to know the rules before taking any medication and I failed to do so. I want to be absolutely clear: I have never taken any substance with the intention of gaining a competitive advantage. Anyone who knows me knows how much I respect this game and the values it represents."

Mullinax's suspension marks the ninth since the PGA Tour implemented drug testing in 2008. The most recent previous suspension was for Byeong Hun An in October 2023, who inadvertently used a substance found in an over-the-counter cough syrup in South Korea. The tour has not disclosed the specific circumstances surrounding Mullinax's positive test.

Mullinax, who finished 150th in the FedEx Cup standings last year and held conditional status for the 2026 season, has competed in three events this spring, including one on the Korn Ferry Tour. His last PGA Tour appearance was on April 27 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. His only PGA Tour victory came in July 2022 at The Barbasol Championship. Mullinax's best performance at a major championship was a tie for seventh place at the 2017 U.S. Open.

Mullinax is eligible to return to competition on January 16, just one week prior to the start of the 2027 season.
